About the Moorcroft Interactive Price Guide

Purpose of this web site

First, and foremost, to give the user an easy to use and comprehensive guide to the original list prices of Moorcroft Pottery for the year(s) in which each particular piece was on-sale in the 'primary market' - I.e. available brand new from Moorcroft retailers, the factory, collectors club etc.

Secondly, to provide the user with a historical record of all the different designs and shapes / sizes which have been produced by the Moorcroft Pottery over the years. Please note that we only cover contemporary Moorcroft - i.e. the last 20 years or so. We do not currently hold details of the older ranges and designes by William Moorcroft and also most of Walter Moorcroft designs (although we do hold some of Walter's more recent designs - e.g. After the Storm, Rock of Ages etc.

Thirdly, Secondary market Price guide. Perhaps one of the most important facilities in the system is the guide to secondary market prices. This information has been collected again from a variety of sources, primarily ebay's on line auctions - as this provides a ready source of current prices, but also traditional auctions and off-line sales.

Who are we?

This site has been built, written and is maintained by a group of keen Moorcorft pottery collectors. We were frustrated with the absence of a comprehensive and up to date pricing guide for moorcroft pottery and that is why we produced this site.

What does the Database contain?

Our extensive database contains details on over 2,800 different items of moorcroft pottery, produced in recent times (from approx 1987 onwards). It contains details of all stock / retail items produced, special event vases, limited editions, numbered editions, one-off trial and auction pieces, factory-shop only items, retailers exclusives, Moorcroft Collectors Club (MCC) pieces etc.

For each different range, we detail all the different shapes and sizes of pots which have ever been produced, detailing the year they were first introduced, their retail prices for the years they were on general sale. We currently have information on over 4,500 different retail prices!

For each item we detail the name of the design, the year it was first released, details of the designer, the shape/size of the item. We also hold valuable information about Limited Editions and Numbered Editions; for Limited Editions the number of items produced is recorded; we also hold this for numbered items where the total number produced is known.

Our database contains a smart search engine and you can find items by their name, designer shape/size, or description. You can also search by LIMITED EDITIONS or NUMBERED EDITIONS. You can combile searches; For example you can search for all the Limited Editions by Rachael Bishop, or show all the vases produced on the 32/5" shape !! Using this search engine, you can quickly find the item you are looking for. Many Moorcroft items have more than one name - for example items are grouped into 'ranges' or 'collections' and our search engine allows you to search by these names too. For example you can search for collections such as 'dateline' or 'Burghley House' or 'Locked Room' or 'Shakespear Ginger Jars'.

What about the retail prices?

We provide detail of retail prices, and this data is very accurate for the years 1994-2004 as we have access to the published retail price lists for these years. We have detailed where possible other retail prices for other years as we have come across these. We have also found a 'trade price list' for 1988 and we have quoted these prices in the absence of a proper retail price list for this year.
IF YOU CAN HELP US PLEASE - we are looking for retail price list for the years 1993 and before.

What about the secondary market prices?

We collect and maintain an extensive database of prices achieved in the secondary market for the resale of Moorcroft pottery. We regularly update our database, so you can check how much you items are worth and also HOW MUCH YOU SHOULD BE PAYING for items you wish to buy in the secondary market. We provide details on whether the item sold was a FIRST quality or a SECOND (silver-line) quality item, as this affects the valuation. For Limited and numbered items, we detail the number of the item sold, if this is available. Over time we are gathering information about which numbered items are either first or second quality; this will be useful for tracking down seconds which have been defaced and passed off as first quality.
Our database also contains valuation details and information on all the Moorcroft Newsletter, and yearly catalogues, which themselves have become highly desirable and highly collectible. We also detail valuations on other related Moorcroft publications, such as Christie's of London's auction catalogues and various moorcroft books.

What about prices for first quality and factory second quality items?

For each secondary market price we detail whether or not the item sold was 1st or 2nd quality. However you must be aware that it is not often possible to be 100% sure that items sold are best quality, many items sold on ebay are not described in sufficient detail to determine. We do however try to get this information as accurate as possible.

What about pictures?

We provide pictures of some items, we are in the process of adding to the picture database, and you can help if you have a picture you are willing to upload to the website. You can upload these on the item view page. If we do not have a picture of a specific pot, we may show a picture of a similar pot (i.e. an item in the same range or an item of the same shape/size (or both!).

Can I contribute?

YES! If you have any information which can help us make our database information more accurate or more complete, please contact us. We are looking for pre 1993 retail prices, and we are looking for more pictures of various pots.

How do I join?

You can Join by Clicking Here or selecting the Subscribe Option from the Main Menu at the Top of the screen.

Why does it cost me to Join?

We have spent a considerable amount of time and money in creating the database, and it is now almost a full-time job to keep the information up to date. The biggest effort is in adding new price details for the secondary market. At any given time, we are tracking and monitoring over 200 sales of Moorcroft pottery and we are adding approximately 500 new sale price results per month to the database. We need to earn a living, and our fee offers good value for money, especially for you, the serious Moorcroft Collector, as you need access to the latest price valuations for your pottery collection.

We also recommend you look at the official moorcroft pottery site www.moorcroft.com and also enquire about the Moorcroft Collectors Club if you are not already a member.
